It was great to be back photographing at Wembley Stadium. The biggest attendance of the weekend joined me for the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy Final. High flying Bristol City took on fellow League One outfit Walsall, making their first ever appearance at the national stadium. Bristol City had visited the new Wembley Stadium before for the Play Off final which saw them narrowly beaten 1-0 by Hull City who were promoted to the Premier League.

It has been a good season of football photography for Simon J. Newbury Photography. I have struggled to get to as many Nantwich Town games as I would have liked this season as I have been working for the national press at a number of games around the North West. I have mainly been commissioned by The Non League Paper and have visited a number of clubs for the paper.

Locally I have covered Winsford, Witton Albion and Leek. I have also headed off to Stafford Rangers and Wrexham. Wrexham are a former League club currently competing in the Skrill Premier. They won the FA Trophy last season, and paraded the Trophy at a recent fixture I was at to photograph prior to handing it back in time for this years final.

Press Photography: Greg Dyke Visit to Nantwich Town

Press Photography: FA Chairman Greg Dyke visits Nantwich Town FC
Location: The Weaver Stadium, Nantwich, Cheshire
Photographer: Simon J. Newbury

On Saturday 3rd November the new Chairman of the FA, Greg Dyke, visited Nantwich Town’s Weaver Stadium. Greg was accompanied by Cheshire FA Chief Executive Simon Gerrard and met Nantwich Town club officials and was given a tour of the facilities at The Weaver Stadium as well as meeting the new Nantwich Town ladies team and the youth teams for the Dabbers.

Greg was given the tour by Nantwich Town Chairman Jon Gold and Football Development Officer Steve Smithies. Greg took time to chat to all the players and club officials. Nantwich Town Chairman Jon Gold said, “The FA Chairman Greg Dyke is focussed on developing initiatives and making positive changes at every level of football that will benefit and grow the English game over the coming years.  We are proud that he has highlighted Nantwich Town as a community club from which he can both draw inspiration for his future plans for football at this level and now having witnessed things first hand, he can hopefully include us in any future developments and initiatives that may be introduced in coming years.”

Greg also took time to pose for a portrait photograph!

Here are some photos from the visit:

Clients: Nantwich Town FC, The Non League Paper

I was asked to be the official photographer to Nantwich Town FC at the start of the 2011-12 season by Chairman Jon Gold. It has been a great addition to my press photography! It’s been a great ride with The Dabbers – the historic FA Cup run which took the club to MK Dons. The same season Nantwich Town lifted the Cheshire Senior Cup.

Last season was somewhat disappointing by the same standards and a change was made at the top. Danny Johnson is now in the Dabbers hotseat. This season kicked off brightly with a 2-0 victory over Kings Lynn Town. It gives me great pleasure to announce that I’ll be with the Cheshire club again this season in the capacity of official photographer!

We got the season off to a good start with the squad photo before the Kings Lynn fixture. The team recorded a good win and I am pleased to say that several photos from the match were published the nationwide Non League Paper.

Up The Dabbers!

Commercial Photography: New Nantwich Town FC Kit

Client: Nantwich Town Football Club, County Insurance
Photographer: Simon J. Newbury

The new football season is nearly here and there is a lot of anticipation at The Weaver Stadium ahead of Nantwich Town’s first season under new manager Danny Johnson. There has been a lot of transfer activity at the club with a lot of new arrivals.

The club has a new look home and away kit this term with the sponsors, County Insurance from Crewe, signing up for another season of sponsoring both kits. The new logo is much bolder than last year and should show up very well in the match action shots!

Nantwich Town Chairman Jon Gold has decided to make some large advertising boards with the new kit photographs. The photos will be displayed at life size at the club’s Weaver Stadium!

Steve Phillips & Tom Seals Charity Photography

Quite recently we had the privilege of photographing Crewe Alexandra goalkeeper Steve Phillips on the pitch at the Alexandra Stadium. We’ve also worked with the talented Tom Seals many times. The two are working together to raise funds for two charities. We obviously were very keen to help so did the photography of the pair for publicity purposes!

Tom is including the club fans favourite ‘Blue Moon’ on his upcoming album release and the track will be released as a charity single. The funds will be for Leukemia & Lymphoma Research and Caudwell Children.

Tom’s Pledge page is here: Tom Seals Music Pledge

Keep up to date with Steve’s Fundraising efforts on his Facebook page: Steve Phillips Fundraising Facebook Page

You can even pledge for a set of these signed photos on Tom’s page!

We are very proud to be involved and wish the pair all the very best in their efforts!

Adam leads out Nantwich Town as Mascot

It’s certainly been a busy week at SJN Towers. Ed Miliband’s visit to Pickmere Court in Crewe was followed by my visit to Media City to meet and photograph Sir Alex Ferguson. Saturday was back to a bit of normality with the visit of Ashton United to the Weaver Stadium.

It was my absolute pleasure to arrange for young Adam Standring, star of the CAFT charity calendar, to be the mascot for Nantwich Town and lead the team out for kick-off. Adam warmed up with the team on the pitch before the game and had a kick around with Caspar Hughes.

Here are a few photographs of Adam’s special day with Nantwich Town FC.

Portrait Photography: Sir Alex Ferguson

Thursday was quite an unusual day! Not only did I get to visit Media City in Manchester, I also got to meet and do a portrait of Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson. I took a late booking to head up to Media City to do a portrait of Sir Alex. As a football fan it was quite a nice prospect. As always with these celebrity portraits there isn’t a great deal of time set aside for the photography. If you ever saw the BBC film on The Queen being photographed by Annie Leibovitz you will know what I mean! A private audience with Sir Alex was something of a pleasure! Despite all the tales of “hair dryers” I found Sir Alex to be pleasant and engaging. We talked very briefly about Nantwich Town, where I am the official photographer, and then on to the shoot. I was thinking that the shot would end up in monochrome (it’s nice to have the freedom to choose). When I saw the colour version of my chosen portrait I felt it had a lot about it and so went for that choice. This is my portrait of Sir Alex Ferguson CBE
